Gary Lewis & the Playboys
Branson’s hosting “Gary Lewis & The Playboys!” One of the biggest groups of the 1960’s, they released a lot of great songs, scoring Top 40 status with seventeen singles, including eight Gold sellers. They’ve sold an astonishing 45 million records around the world, including four Gold albums. Their catalog of hit singles includes Save Your Heart for Me, Count Me In, Green Grass, Everybody Loves a Clown, She’s Just My Style, Sealed with a Kiss, Sure Gonna Miss Her, and the smash hit, This Diamond Ring. The distinctive voice of “Gary Lewis,” son of world famous actor, comedian, and humanitarian, Jerry Lewis, captured everyone’s attention in the 60’s, an era when the British Invasion was strong, and included iconic bands like The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Beatles, and legendary American heart-throbs like Elvis Presley, ruled the airwaves. In fact, it was Elvis Presley and another famous crooner, Frank Sinatra, who were beat out in 1965 by “Gary Lewis” for the honor of Male Vocalist of the Year from Cashbox Magazine!
Music fans, and what seemed like every woman alive, fell in love with “Gary Lewis & The Playboys,” and it kept them active on stage, as well as on television and in the movies. They appeared in movies like Rock-A-Bye Baby, Out of Sight, and Swinging Summer, and the NBC Movie of the Week, My Boyfriend’s Back. Other television appearances include the EMMY Awards, The Jerry Lewis Show, The Tonight Show, The Ed Sullivan Show, and The Mike Douglas Show, and they performed on the era’s biggest music-party style shows, like Hullabaloo and Shindig.
